EC 415WX-01 Political Economics of Conflict: Home

Your Assignment

Dear Cadets,

You will write one 5-page paper (Paper 1) and one 3-page paper (Paper 2) that uses analytical tools taught in class to a conflict scenario of your choice. You will have to submit a draft version of these papers at the times specified below. You will also provide a peer review for a colleague for these submissions (appended below). The grading rubric for the paper is available below.

From: Colonel Atin Basu Choudhary, Ph.D.

Paper 1 Prompt: Find a real world example of conflict. Do the background research for this conflict with an eye toward showing how conflict (predation) is a rational choice for individuals even if peace (production) is a possibility.

Paper 2 Prompt: Use your chosen real world example in paper 1 to show how incentive structures (including but not limited to culture and society) interact with individual behavior in issues of conflict AND peace. The focus here should be on what shifts people into conflict or peace. Paper 1 will be incorporated in paper 2 as a background section.
