This guide is designed to help with your art history research. These are recommended sources to use as you search for outside sources for your bibliography and research paper, and include historical, cultural, and art information.

Use the blue tabs to navigate between different library resources.

If you have any questions, contact MAJ Accacia Mullen, Reference Librarian.

General search tips

In no particular order...

  • Use the Getty Union List of Artist Names http://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/ulan/ to find the accepted spelling of an artist's name.
  • Spelling counts.
  • Use quotation marks around a phrase... most of the time.
  • Decide whether to include name of artist, time period, or location.
  • Sometimes less specific is better.
  • Ask your librarians if you aren't finding enough (or good enough) sources. They're here to help.
