ILL Borrowing UPDATE

Interlibrary Loan continues to borrow both electronic items and physical items, such as books, for faculty, staff, and cadets remaining on Post.  We are unable to borrow and mail physical items for cadets off Post but we are happy to request articles, book chapters, and other materials that can be delivered electronically.

  • Books will be placed in quarantine for a few days upon arrival so expect minor delays in receipt of items.
  • Interlibrary loan items may be returned to the lobby of the library and placed on the book truck marked for return of library items.
  • If you have any questions, please send inquiries to

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service offered by Preston Library that allows current VMI faculty, staff and cadets to borrow books, book chapters, articles, reports and other materials from other libraries when they are not available in Preston Library's collection.   ILL accounts have already been created for our users so you will only need to log in at to submit a borrowing request.

Preston Library absorbs any fees charged for providing ILL services so there is no cost to the user and there is no limit to the number of requests you may submit.
