Case Study Report and Presentation
Conduct research using the following types of sources to generate a well-developed case study highlighting the successful remediation of a contaminated site:
- scholarly (peer-reviewed) technical articles
- books
- other media sources
Your case study should tell a story about:
- the origins of the contamination
- the main variables of the site (geology and hydrology)
- the contaminant (chemistry, fate and transport) that influenced the remediation technologies considered and ultimately used
- And -
- A short background of public health threat, the timeline of the site, and the outcomes of the successful remediation effort. Describe the science behind the technology.
Then:
- Describe the ethical and professional responsibilities involved in this remediation effort.
- How did the engineers/scientists/lawyers make informed judgments and decisions?
- How did or could these engineering solutions have a global, economic, environmental, and societal impact?
- Consider the impacts from the site if nothing had been done.
Logistics:
Aim for 2200 words (ten pages, double spaced, maximum) and you can use up to three photos, tables, or graphics that each take up no more than ½ of a page. You may use additional graphics in your presentation to the class. As with CE321W and CE451W, use the ASCE Style Manual.
