Borrow, Renew, Return

Borrow Materials

The following users may borrow materials from Preston Library:

  • Current VMI cadets, faculty (including emeritus), and staff
  • Current students and faculty of Washington & Lee and Southern Virginia University 
  • Current students and faculty of other participating Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA)-member libraries 
  • Local high school students
    • This includes students attending Rockbridge County High School (RCHS) and Parry McCluer High School (PMHS)
  • Residents of Rockbridge County, Lexington City, and Buena Vista City

Check Out Library Materials

To check out materials:

  • Visit the Service Desk where a cadet assistant or staff member will be present to check materials out to your account, or
  • Use the self-checkout station in front of the Service Desk

Renew Materials

To renew materials:

  • Reply to the automatic email we sent you about your upcoming due dates, or
  • Call us at 540-464-7129, or
  • Visit the Service Desk, or
  • Access your My Library account

Return Materials

To return library and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) materials:

  • Visit the Service Desk during operating hours, or
  • Use the 24-hour bookdrop slot, directly to the left of the main entrance
