Your Task - Briefly

Imagine that you have been asked to represent your fellow cadets and VMI at an April Symposium on Sustainable Futures for Living with Earth, hosted by the Center for Leadership at VMI (CLE). Your audience will include experts, industry, environmental officials from VA, VMI students and faculty. 

In preparation to present a 10-minute “paper” at this symposium, you will research and write a 4-5 page essay proposing a problem and solution to a particular sustainable issue.

RESEARCH REQUIREMENTS – Rely on / review WA Ch 16 (342) to choose and evaluate sources

  • You may use only 1 source read as a class (Leopold, Carson, Ecomodernists, etc.)
  • You must represent 4 newly discovered sources to support your problem/ solution
  • Think 60% problem, 40% solution for claims and evidence
  • 1 source must be a peer-reviewed article or book chapter
  • 1 source must be a news or documentary source published in the last 5 years. 
  • Remaining sources can be government, industry, trade in any form (visual, podcast, print, website, etc.)
    • Search Google and limit by domain name: site:.gov, site:.edu, site:.org
