Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month reminds us that poetry and poets play an integral role in our culture. It is the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K-12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, bloggers, and, of course, poets marking poetry’s important place in our lives every April. In 2021, we celebrate National Poetry Month’s twenty-fifth anniversary!
Preston Library is highlighting the extraordinary legacy and ongoing achievement of American poets. Find the poetry of Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson as well as current poets, Amanda Gorman (who was named the first National Youth Poet Laureate) Nikki Giovanni and Joy Harjo (Poet Laureate of the United States).
Books of poetry are displayed in the lobby. Check them out!
