Wireless Printing -- MacOS Setup

Wireless Printing Setup for MacOS

*You MUST connect to VMI-Sentinel or eduroam secure wifi to print*
Cadets and Rats: If you have difficulties connecting,
you need to visit the Barracks IT Helpdesk or call 540-464-7888.

Install new FindMe -- Cadet printer option on your laptop for wireless printing:

1.    Connect to the VMI-Sentinel wifi network using your PostView username and password, OR eduroam wifi network using your full VMI email address and password.

2.    Go to: System Preferences > Printers and Scanners. MacOS 10.10 (Yosemite or newer)

3.    Click the
+  icon at the bottom of the Printers list.

4.    The Add dialog should display a list of all the discovered printers available.

5.    Select the printer FindMe - Cadets.

6.    Check that Use is set to Secure AirPrint. If Secure AirPrint is not displayed:

a)    Close the Add dialog.
b)    Disconnect from the wifi network.
c)    Reconnect to the Sentinel or eduroam network. Try again. If you still cannot see Secure AirPrint, your device is likely not connected to the network. See the Barracks IT Helpdesk.

7.    Click Add.

8.    To print a document, select FindMe – Cadets as your printer.

9.    Go to one of the printers in the Learning Commons area on the 5th floor and wave your VMI ID card over the black card reader mounted on the machine to log into it.

10.    Once you’re logged in to the printer, touch Print Release. Your print job(s) should show up onscreen.

11.    Touch the gray arrow next to the job(s) you want to print, then touch Print. The job should print out on that printer.

12.    Once you have the FindMe – Cadets installation working, you can go to any public printer in Preston Library to print out your job(s).

*Note: If you enter incorrect authentication details, or try to log in to VMI secure wifi with your mac.com credentials, MacBook devices do not show any warning message -- your job simply will not print.

If your job doesn’t print, check the Print Queue dialog on your MacBook device.

If the print job is there and shows the message Held for authentication, click the "refresh" (clockwise arrow) icon, then delete the pre-populated username and password. Enter your VMI network (PostView) username and password for VMI-Sentinel, or your full VMI email address and password for eduroam wifi.

Save this login information. Wait a moment and try steps 9-11 again. If necessary, try reprinting your job(s).
