Writing styles and genres can vary in literary studies and modern languages, including poetry, prose, drama, nonfiction, literature analyses, reviews, books, news and journal articles.
Writing for philosophy entails expository writing (explanatory - explaining someone else's work, not critiquing it) and evaluative writing (explaining and evaluating something, like someone else's work). These can be found in books, journal articles, and conference papers.
All of these disciplines use MLA (Modern Language Association) guidelines for citation styling.
